This has been a significant issue for me as I continue to navigate the intricacies of the two technologies. As most developers, I use GitHub to showcase code as well as store some of my other projects. Loading an initial project through Visual Studio is fairly easy, but using GitHub like my standard source control tool Team Foundation Server (TFS) through Visual Studio for on-going commits/management/etc., it has proven more difficult.
However, as I put more code on Github where I want to show an evolution of the project, it has become a requirement. So, after a couple of Internet searches, I found a truly awesome Visual Studio 2015 Extension for Github. I have installed it and so far, it looks pretty decent. If I have issues, I will update this post.
